Golden birthdays are only something I learned about last year, but they’re a very cool thing! If you aren’t in the know like I was, a golden birthday is when the birthday celebrant turns the same age as the day they were born. For example, if you were born on the first, your golden birthday would have already passed. But if you are 16 going on 17, and you were born on the seventeenth, you’ve got a golden birthday in your future! My golden birthday will be this year in June, but my friend Yuka just celebrated hers with a really beautiful lunch at Quattro Caffé with some of her closest friends.
Yuka was putting a lot of care and detail into planning her party; from printing out name cards for guests to coordinating with the restaurant to create a set menu, all details were taken into consideration. For added elegance, she hired my floral designer mama to create a garland and small floral arrangements for the table setting. On top of that, she planned a duffy boat ride for after-lunch festivities! Although she didn’t outright say it, it was clear that she wanted to make this birthday extra special.
I love Yuka, and I’m in the middle of a balloon moment, so I wanted to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to her decor. Coordinating with her boyfriend Daniel, who had taken on the important responsibility of decorations, I shared my idea of creating a balloon garland for the party. He happily offered to help, and with some assistance blowing up balloons, I was able to assemble the balloon garland in record time. I coordinated the colors with my mom’s flowers and added in a touch of gold to tie it in with the theme.
I love how it turned out, but I was happiest seeing the end result put a smile on my friend’s face. Photos from her birthday lunch are below!
